We have already discussed in detail about domain name and it’s working in one of our previous articles but let’s just quickly summarise things for a better understanding.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is basically the physical address of your website that people type in their browsers to reach your website.

Every website has a unique but complex series of numbers called IP address of the website.

This IP address contains the exact information about the website but makes no sense to humans.

Hence, the domain name is a human-friendly version of IP address as it is easy to remember and you can choose it according to your website.

Some of the examples of domain names are pcheaven.in, facebook.com, twitter.com, etc.

Domain name is nothing but your website name extension by which all the users find your page.

What’s the need to register the domain name?

Domain name registration is important for a website, an email or another web service. It gives you personality and recognized identity in the internet world. As soon as you register a domain name, the information about its owner is publicly available.

Another reason for a brand or online business to register a domain name is to protect copyrights and trademarks, build creditability, increase brand awareness, and search engine positioning.

How to choose the best domain name?

Choosing a domain name is the most crucial part of any online business as it is the foundation of your website.

  • It should be short and simple:
Your domain name should be easy to pronounce, spell, and as short as possible. If you use a complicated domain name, there will be a possibility of mistyping while searching your website. The fewer characters of domain, the easier it will be to type.
    For example pix.com, tool.com, cam.com
  • Avoid special characters and numbers:
Domains with number or hyphens make the name complicated and often misunderstood.
As bookshop.com will be easier to brand as compared to book-shop.com
  • Use your primary keyword and brand name in the domain
Keywords in a domain name make them more SEO friendly:
It makes obvious what your website is about. As webdesigner.com appeals more about your website than web.com
  • Always go for a domain name that is easy to remember:
If the domain is easier to remember, it’ll be really helpful for the users to reach your website often.
  • Try to stick with .com extension:
.com is the most reliable and recognized TLD. It is more user-friendly than other extensions. The only reason to not take .com extension should be it’s unavailability while registration.
